The film is shot as a documentary that was posted on a fictional Wikileaks type site, and tells the story of the outbreak in a small Maryland town, on July 4th. What makes this film unique is the way in which it was shot. In this film, dumping into the Chesapeake Bay has caused a harmless fish parasite to evolve into a human killer. What makes this film unique is the way The Bay is a message hidden within a film, similar to 2008's the Happening, The Bay tells of the consequences of destroying our environment. THE BAY 2012 REVIEWS MOVIE
In the beginning, the juxtaposition of gruesome imagery with a Fourth of July carnival is genuinely disturbing, and sets the tone for the rest of the film. The Bay is the most disturbing movie I've seen in years. The film is by no means intended as a scientific treatise, but it ties in actual environmental issues such as run off from factory farming, making it feel all too plausible. Where the film actually features shaky cam footage, it is used to great effect, as when a digital camera malfunctions during a violent scene, making it that much more disturbing. The film's greatest asset is how disturbingly real it feels.
THE BAY 2012 REVIEWS PROFESSIONAL
The footage in the film comes from various sources, ranging from security cameras to a professional cameraman wandering through town with a reporter. This approach gives the film a sense of verisimilitude from the get go, especially in this age of Wikileaks.Levinson also uses the documentary format to avoid one of the major pitfalls of found footage movies-over reliance on shaky cams.

The movie as a documentary composed of leaked classified footage. He/She went for a dip later that afternoon and died shortly after." So then there's no sense of danger, it's just speculation on how that character's going to die and when.None the less, The Bay is something you can't miss out on, it's probably the best horror film since The Blair Witch, I give a 10/10. The Bay tells a story similar to The Happening, you environment finally says "screw it, were done with your sh*t humans, now it's our turn." When ever this happens, it's like playing an automated chess game with a computer, when your turn is done, it's done and then the computer will basically take the moves you thought were smart, and show you why they actually weren't smart. One problem with the film is that when the narrator introduces a new character she's goes on a schpeel like "This is _X_, he/she runs this store. Trick you, namely VHS and The Blair Witch Project to name a few of which I enjoyed thoroughly, but personally, Spoiler: if a house comes to life and begins to lock its inhabitants inside, you have dropped all sense of reality.
